Nov. 16, 2007

Box Score

KEARNEY, NEB. -- Julie Green-McFarland had 17 kills and Kelsey Ellis added 12 kills and 19 digs to lead No. 6-seed Metro State to a sweep of No. 3-seed UC-Colorado Springs, 30-25, 32-30, 30-22, in the first round of the NCAA Southwest Regional volleyball tournament, Friday afternoon at the UNK Health and Sports Center.

Metro State was helped by a season-low .039 hitting percentage by the Mountain Lions, who were making their first-ever appearance at the NCAA Tournament. UCCS made 28 attack errors, its most for a three-game match this year, and also added seven service errors.

UCCS had two game points in the second game, which featured 13 ties, but the Roadrunners fought them off and pulled out the game to take a 2-0 advantage. The third game was tied at 11 but Metro State took control with a 9-2 run.

Lisa Jones added 11 kills and hit .320, while Bri Ostler had 15 digs and Stephanie Levi had 42 assists for the Roadrunners. The Mountain Lions were led by Brooke Akers' 11 kills and Andrea Weedman's 16 digs.

With the win, Metro State improves to 16-14 overall, while UC-Colorado Springs' season ends at 20-12. The Roadrunners face the winner of No. 2-seed West Texas A&M and No. 7-seed Midwestern State, Nov. 17 at 5 p.m.
